About Sarah

Sarah Irwin is a Calgary-based actor singer and vocal coach. Her versatile voice has given her the opportunity to perform on stages throughout the country in a variety of genres ranging from musical theatre, to classical, jazz, pop/rock and even gospel. Her dramatic performance as Isla in the musical Spring Awakening (ACT Theatre) earned her a ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nomination at the Calgary Critic’s choice awards in 2014. Other notable musical roles she has performed include Cathy in The Last 5 Years, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Jen in John and Jen, and Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors. As an actor, she has performed in a number of commercials, voice-overs, films and most recently a comedic web series entitled “Formal Complaints”.

Sarah attended the conservatory triple-threat training program at The Canadian College of Performing Arts and received her BA in music from Ambrose University. While at Ambrose, she expanded her knowledge of vocal pedagogy as well as classical repertoire and vocal technique. Teaching voice is one of Sarah’s passions and she has taught musical theatre classes, as well as private voice, for a number of years at the Calgary based studio, Music and Play. 

A part of a variety of choral groups, Sarah has participated in the Ambrose University Singers, the Ambrose Chamber Singers, and Briercrest’s a cappella group “Resonant”. As a soloist, she has sung multiple weddings, funerals, and special events. Sarah is also part of the Indie-Folk Ensemble Postgrads which performs at different venues throughout Calgary.
